Surfact: Feeding The Beast
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

Danish rock quintet Surfact debuted in 2006 with their solid grunge effort ‘Terrific Downfall’, followed up with ‘Euphoria’ in 2009, which marked the beginning of a stylistic move now completed with their third synthrock full length ‘Feeding The Beast’, which again showcases the five’s splendid knack for heavy guitar riffs and solid hooks.
Who are they?
Jesper Storgaard (vocal), Claus Bach (guitar), Martin Kristoffersen (guitar), Jeppe Sig (drums) and Niels Lykke Rasmussen (bass and co-production).
How’s the album?
Like their sophomore effort ‘Euphoria’ (2009), ‘Feeding The Beast is produced by Søren Balsner who’s helped the gang complete the move away from grunge to symphonic synthrock (a sound and feel shared with Balsner’s own band Carpark North). Their Muse grandiosity meets Snow Patrol pop sensibility take on things is in no way unique and the album as a whole is not incredible, but less can go a long way and with their knack for nailing big riffs and good hooks very pleasing moments are found in album opener ‘The Pace’, ‘Before My Eyes’ (in the player) and finishing power-ballad ‘When I Return’. In short, Surfact have added a solid if unspectacular third album to their discography.
