Back in September Swedish classic rock trio New Rose were one of the selected in a Friday SpaceScan along with Norwegian six-piece Forza, and the following month they released their debut album, ‘Tracklist Within’. I received it a while ago and finally I’ve gotten around to give it a mention – and it’s of course kind.

Who are they?
Daniel Bengtson (bass), Niklas Korssell (drums) and Gustav Nygren (guitars, vocal).

How’s the album?
Tapping in to the same inspirational vein as fellow Swedish and Andreas Kleerup fronted My And My Army and Norwegian Bigbang, while sporting an occasional nod to Korssell and Nygren’s background in free jazz (‘Heavy Horn’) and a thrashy Bob Dylan meets Happy Mondays moment (‘The Kids Won’t Wait’), it might not be mind-bendingly unique. It is, however, a sweet 10 song treat for those of us liking rock as it was done first in the 1960s and 1970s, and with highlights like album opener ‘Sleeping Slides’ and ‘The Sun Is A Star’ New Rose and ‘Tracklist Within’ is well worth 40 minutes of your time. Good stuff indeed.
