SpaceScan11 #49: Ragga Gröndal and Stockers!
It is Friday and time for another SpaceScan, this one presenting Iceland’s Ragnheiður Gröndal, who released her first album as Ragga Gröndal earlier this year, and Finnish quartet Stockers!, who dabble in Editors-tinged indierock and have a track available for free download. As usual I hope you like the selected two and send you my best wishes for a grand weekend…
Ragga Gröndal (ISL)
She’s been at it for almost a decade, exploring jazz and Icelandic folk on several releases as Ragnheiður Gröndal, but this year she released her first album under the moniker Ragga Gröndal. Streaming in full on Gogoyoko it’s titled ‘Astrocat Lullaby’ and features eleven pieces of beautiful alternative pop that you wouldn’t be wrong to file on the same shelf as Kate Bush and Tori Amos.
Stockers! (SF) (Photo)
A quartet hailing from Helsinki, Finland, Stockers! have what seems to be a four song EP out and streaming on Facebook (haven’t been able to catch a title, though). Anyway, it’s angular, UK-styled and guitar driven indierock with soul mates in acts like Editors and as such not remarkably unique. It is, however, quite good and on top they offer ‘Vanish’ in the player as free download on Bandcamp.
WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on the www, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
