Hopefully all of you survived last week’s ominous combination of Friday and 13 and feel ready to take in new musical experiences. In our SpaceScan this week Norwegian one-woman band Rockettothesky and Danish trio Little yeLLs AloT offer haunting, spheric pop rooted in Scandinavian folk and hard hitting rock with a nod to Nirvana respectively.

From Norway comes this one-woman band, named Jenny Hval at birth. As Rockettothesky she released her second effort, ‘Medea’, in October, a concept album on death named after the sorceress Medea in classic mythology who killed her children after her husband Jason deserted her. Heavily inspired by Scandinavian folk tradition she creates small, glowing pearls of spheric, alternative pop with her haunting elfin vocal a towering highlight.

Little yeLLs AloT (DK)
After a couple of demos this Danish trio are currently putting the finishing touches on their as of yet untitled full length debut. Judging by the two songs, acid-punk track ‘All That Is’ and ‘Gills’ (discretely tipping its hat to Nirvana and what they did), Little yeLLs AloT have online we’re all in for a powerful rock treat come time for the release. Until then check them out on MySpace or catch them live – rumor has it they kick ass on stage.
