SpaceScan09 #15: Culkin and The Shitsez
Categories: Features • Norway • Rock • Sweden • Urban

The fifteenth installment of SpaceScan this year offer two very different trips with Swedish quartet Culkin gazing at their shoes while putting their one (and only?) big musical love on display and Norwegian girl duo The Shitsez who got this summer’s club banging smash-hit nailed. You know the drill: Listen, read and head on over to MySpace…
Culkin (SE)
From Haninge/Uppsala, Sweden, comes this quartet who fell in and never fell out of love with the guitar-wall-of-sounds indierock from the 1990s. Expect hats tipping to the likes of Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine, soaring guitars, great hooks, gazing at shoes and something sooo not 2000-cool as guitar solos – and prepare to be pleased by it all.

I’ve been digging the Finnish electro pop-punk trio Le Corps Mince de Françoise for a while now, so I’m not at all surprised that I’m really into this Norwegian girl duo. Like the Finns you’ll find a little M.I.A. and Peaches plus CSS in the mix, however, The Shitsez are very much their own in the two quite different, but equally great, tracks on MySpace: The hard hitting electrorock gem ‘Scout Boy’ and club banging soon-to-be smash hit everywhere, ‘Next Big Thing’.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
