Q&A: Yes Please! – Bad luck and ski jumping
Categories: Features • Finland • Rock

Raucous indierock with great pop hooks and acts like The Strokes, Talking Heads and The Libertines among the influences is the essence of Finnish outfit Yes Please!. That, bad luck and the national sport, ski jumping, as guitarist Teppo Merilainen reveals while he takes us through the W’s according to the quartet.
Who?
“Matti Nykänen is the greatest ski jumper ever and he is also our idol. Once we even got a chance to meet him but as usual we had such bad luck that our email didn’t work properly.”
Where?
“Lahti (Finnish town) is famous for ski jumping, Our friend Johannes, who has lived in Lahti as a young boy, has done his share of ski jumping – once even without his skies properly on… You can imagine how that ended… SHLAM!!”
What?
“We should make more songs about our bad luck and move to New York.”
Why?
“Enjoyment and laughs.”
