SpaceScan09 #17: Masquer and Day Eleven
Categories: Electronica • Finland • Rock • Sweden

Friday! A great day on so many levels, not least because it is the day of the SpaceScan. This week there’s been mocking about with mathematical theories while digging Finnish alternative rockers Day Eleven and a short flashback to the darker times now behind us courtesy of brand new Swedish shoegaze ‘n electro duo Masquer.

A side project by Kicki Halmos (Lowood, Idoru) and Pelle Lundqvist (Idoru) Masquer excites with an enticing mix of shoegaze rock and electronica dressed in The Cure-like goth. Three great songs and a cool cover of said The Cure’s ‘The Hanging Garden’ is on MySpace and embracing the new age they are giving away all tracks – check their MS blog for links. (PK)

We are music lovers, not mathematicians at ALL SCANDINAVIAN. But if we were to dabble in numbers we have a theory, that Finland has one of the highest cool-rock-band-per-citizen-ratings in the world. One of the many bands deserving your attention is Day Eleven, a talented alternative rock band who effortlessly switches between grandiose rock anthems and more quiet, melancholic tunes – and do both very good. The band is working on their third album, due out later this year. (TB)

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
