Nephew: Interkom Kom Ind
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

Third album from Denmark’s most successful band in recent years had one major obstacle in front of it: The massive success of their second album ‘USADSB’ that earned Nephew every award worth mentioning and went platinum within four months of its release. With their musical mix of excellent pop seasoned with quite a bit of Depeche Mode and frontman Simon Kvamm’s oddly poetic lyrics in Danglish (a mash-up of English and Danish) Nephew skyrocketed, and ‘USADSB’ has since then been released in most of Europe and in Japan.
So did they manage to follow that success? Absolutely – and more so. Though not as immediately accessible as ‘USADSB’, ‘Interkom Kom Ind’ is still more than half an album worth of potential smash hits and an album that just keeps growing with each listen. Synth greats Depeche Mode are still very much an inspiration, but Nephew also pay their respect to legendary Danish 1980s art-pop act Kliché, especially in songs like ‘Cigaret Kid’ and ‘Science Fiction & Familien’. ‘Interkom Kom Ind’ is darker than its predecessor, both produced by Carsten Heller (Spleen United, VETO among others), and lyrically Simon Kvamm is more Danish than Danglish, without loosing that very unique poetic touch that is an integral part of the Nephew universe.
Since then they have released the (best selling, of course) live CD/DVD ’07.07.07’, recorded at Roskilde Festival 2007, which gave Nephew a number 1 hit with ‘Hospital feat. L.O.C.’ (the best selling Danish rapper of all times) that so far has been sold in whopping 45.000+ copies. Also Nephew has embarked on a collaboration with hit producer Timbaland who came across them when he was in Copenhagen for the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards. So far the result is a great Nephew remix of Timbaland’s ‘The Way I Are’, based on their own smash hit ‘Igen Og Igen Og’. The remix earned them a Danish Music Award for Best Foreign Hit this year (listen to it HERE).
