SpaceScan09 #20: Anders Bach and Maria Guttesen
Categories: Denmark • Electronica • Faroe Islands • Features • Pop

Purely by coincidence (really) SpaceScan this week continue with one-person acts, one brand new project and one experienced with three albums under the belt. The latter is Faroese Maria Guttesen who delivers pleasing pop, and she is teamed up with Danish composer Anders Bach who excites with a mix of classical music and electronica.
Anders Bach (DK)
With a mix of classical virtues, contemporary electronica and the seemingly unavoidable Scandinavian melancholy this Dane faces the obvious comparison to Iceland’s neoclassical prodigy, Ólafur Arnalds, and musically as well as emotionally they are quite similar, with Anders Bach (his last name really piling on the pressure) heavier on the electronics. Expect to be touched…

She’s Faroese but based in Aarhus, Denmark, and from there she dishes out pleasing pop spiced up with bits of folk and jazz and delivered with a charming Nordic touch to her pronunciation. Maria Guttesen has so far released three albums, latest ‘Wide Open’ (2008) from which you can check out six songs on her MySpace.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
