SpaceScan09 #21: Sudden Weather Change and Deathstars
Categories: Features • Iceland • Metal • Rock • Sweden

The two bands in this week’s SpaceScan have one thing in common: Their names are open invitations to witty wordplays. We didn’t accept, but hope you will accept ours and get in to depraved Swedish death-glam electrorockers Deathstars and Icelandic punks Sudden Weather Change, who among many things really hate Nicolas Cage.
Deathstars (S) (Photo)
Rammstein meets Marilyn Manson when Swedish death-glam electrorockers Deathstars invites us into their depraved world filled with sex, drugs, depression, darkness and – judging by their makeup – watching ‘The Crow’ a lot. The makeup, the semi ironic (or is it irony? It’s hard to say these days…) attitude and uniforms may put some off but I like bands that goes all the way. And a little further. Deathstars recently put out their third album, ‘Night Electric Night’, and it has been released in the States this week. (TB)

Sudden Weather Change (ISL)
Punk, noise-rock, guitars (and then some) and even a little disco topped with off-key shouting stream of consciousness lyrics and hating Nicolas Cage, all delivered with an awesomely snotty attitude is what Icelandic quintet Sudden Weather Change do – and do well. In April they released their, uhm, titled debut ‘Stop! Handgrenade In The Name Of Crib-Death, ‘nderstand?’ from which three songs are streaming on MySpace. (PK)

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
