As We Fight: Meet Your Maker

If As We Fight were chefs they would cook chili. And just when the chili’s hot enough to make your eyes bleed, someone would add barbed wire. And nails and maybe some broken glass. And more chili. The metalcore sextet hailing from Fredericia, Denmark, think the “less is more”-concept is for pussies. More is more and a lot more is awesome.
When listening to As We Fight you get a feeling that someone in the studio – perhaps someone from the band, perhaps producer Jacob Bredahl (formerly of HateSphere, now Last Mile) – more than once said: “Sure, we’ve got drums being kicked around the room, blistering guitar riffs and two vocalists that sound like Satan with a hangover… But, could we make it more aggressive?”
‘Meet Your Maker’ is the Danes’ third album and even though the band has been through numerous line up-changes (‘Meet Your Maker’ features two new vocalists and a new drummer) the recipe is still the same. The shouty anthems feature a nice mixture of screaming and growling vocals and there are more than plenty of cool rock’n'roll-guitar riffs to fill two albums.
Granted, a bit of variation and stronger melodies would make the album better but in all fairness metalcore isn’t really about melodies, it’s about being pissed off and loud as hell. As We Fight are just that and on top of that an excellent live act who have been nominated for Best Live Band three years in a row at the Danish Metal Awards. If they happen to play near you, do check them out. But don’t expect sing-a-long music – expect total mayhem!
