SpaceScan09 #45: Cours Lapin and Kråkesølv
Categories: Alternative • Denmark • Norway • Rock

My French’s definitely not what it should be. Neither are my northern Norwegian dialects. Either way that’s what I have decided to present in this week’s SpaceScan, because the music is excellent. Danish quartet Cours Lapin offer melancholic pop the French chanson way, while Norway’s Kråkesølv (also a quartet by the way) do catchy indiepop with a little post-rock in the mix.

I was tipped about this Norwegian quartet the other day by a friend on Facebook and took an immediate liking to them. Named Kråkesølv (I’m guessing it means “crow silver”, but since they move in mysterious dialect ways in everything they do, guess is all I can do) they are very catchy and immensely sympathetic in their indiepop ‘n post-rock glory. Their debut ‘Trådnøsting’ (won’t even guess on that one) is released in Norway on Monday and judging by the three songs on MySpace good stuff is to be expected.

Cours Lapin (DK)
Danish quartet Cours Lapin is the result of four movie score composers (so of course it had to be a French name and ditto lyrics) getting together to create music. And it turns out that this was a very good decision indeed by Louise Alenius, Asger Baden, Peder and Jonas Struck. Heavy melancholy walks hand in hand with catchy pop in their chanson-style compositions with Alenius’ frail voice the captivating narrator. Four songs from their eponymous debut are available on MySpace, so go check them out.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com

Kråkesølv means “Mica”.
Ha! Guess one could argue I couldn’t have been further off. That’s what you get when trying to translate directly ;o)
Is it possible to translate Trådnøsting to something meaningful in English?
Thanks for your help and for making me look a complete idiot ;o)
hi again.
no no, first time i saw the word “kråkesølv”, i thought it meant silver cow too! xD
but they meant mica or fake silver.
Trådnøsting means “Unraveling a Ball of Yarn”.
they took it from a song “Unravel” by Björk.
