It’s all about videos in this edition of From the Inbox (although one free track’s included), presenting visual treats for songs by Swedish synthrock quintet MF/MB/, Norway’s Röyksopp, my Finnish indiepop favorites Delay Trees and orchestral pop ditto from Iceland, Hjaltalín, and a couple more. Check them out and let us know what you think.
MF/MB/ (SE) (Photo)
We kick this video tour off with Swedish synthrock quintet MF/MB/’s ambitious project with music videos for every song on their great debut album ‘Folded’ – this one for first single ‘The Big Machine’, directed by Anders Weberg. Check out the rest on thisismfmb.com…
HJALTALÍN (ISL)
Back in April I gave you the lowdown on Icelandic orchestral pop outfit Hjaltalín’s excellent sophomore effort ‘Terminal’, and here’s the great video for single ‘Sweet Impressions’, directed by Arni Thor Jonsson.
DELAY TREES (SF)
It should come as no surprise to regular readers, that I’m a really big fan of dreamy Finnish indiepop quartet Delay Trees (my words on their eponymous debut here). Now there’s a video out for single ‘Cassette 2012’, which is the result of quite the international collaboration between director James Martin, Norwegian Oh Yeah Studio (illustrations) and Martin’s Japan-based friend Jonathan Ben-Ami, who’s supplied the Tokyo footage.
ALCOHOLIC FAITH MISSION (DK)
This year Danish alternative rockers Alcoholic Faith Mission released their third and excellent album ‘Let This Be The Last Night We Care’, and recently this DIY live video for ‘Sobriety Up And Left’ hit the www, shot on location at Casa Mezcal by director Austin Conroy, while the band was in New York for this year’s CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival.
RÖYKSOPP (NO)
This video for Röyksopp’s ‘The Drug’, taken from their instrumental album ‘Senior’, is cool and slightly disturbing. Directed by Noel Paul and Stefan Moore it reminds me of I Am Legend (only with three girls instead of one Will Smith) in all its apocalyptic horror.
KAKA (SE)
Early next year Kaka aka Richard Karlsson, who do pop with twists ranging from South American beats to German schlager and a bitpop feel to it, will release his sophomore effort from which two singles are out and about. The latest is ‘Candyman’, accompanied by this video directed and produced by Jonas Nilsson, which was preceded by ‘Below This Sun’, available for free download with a Right Click + Save As here!
