SpaceScan10 #52: Pouta and Tonik
Categories: Electronica • Features • Finland • Iceland • Rock

It’s the final day of 2010 and coincidently time for the final SpaceScan this year, presenting great pop-rock from Finland and melancholic electronica from Iceland by quartet Pouta and one-man band Tonik respectively, the latter also offering a small load of freebies. Have a grand weekend and a ditto start on 2011 and hope to see you again on the other side.
Pouta (SF) (Photo)
Named after frontman Antti Pouta this Finnish quartet have been going at it since 2006 and have released the EP ‘Upside Down From The Underground’ (2006) and single ‘Modern Times’ (2008). It’s great pop-rock touching on acts like Tom Petty and U2 at times, and a few days ago Pouta hit my inbox with their latest offering, ‘Suburban Dance’.

Tonik (ISL)
Behind the moniker Tonik we find Icelandic designer and musician Anton Kaldal Ágústsson, who offer his new three track EP of downbeat, melancholic electronica sounding a bit like Kraftwerk in 80s robes, ‘Bogus Journey’, as free download on Bandcamp and a free cover/remix of ‘Winter Wonderland’ on SoundCloud. Here’s the EP title track:

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
