SpaceScan09 #7: Kings of Dark Disco and 200
Categories: Denmark • Electronica • Faroe Islands • Features • Rock

Satirical punches to the face of homophobia and Christian fundamentalism and bleak post-punk ‘n new wave disco is on bright display in this week’s SpaceScan. The first is delivered by ferocious Faroese garage punk trio 200 and the latter by Danish trio Kings of Dark Disco. You know the new drill: Read, listen and enjoy!

A couple of weeks back we featured another Dane with a love for disco (Vinnie Who should you have forgotten), a love shared by this trio. However, where Vinnie Who are more explicitly 1970s happy-sexy disco Kings of Dark Disco live up to their name, coating their disco references in hard hitting contemporary electronica and bleak post-punk/new wave.

200 (FO)
From the Faroe Islands comes this punky garagerock trio dishing out – according to themselves (I don’t understand Faroese) – satirical punches to the face of Faroese politics, homophobia, Christian fundamentalism and Faroese independence from the Danish Empire (“empire” really being a big word this day and age). 200 say it’s “‘In the Ghetto’ meets Motörhead as played by the Sex Pistols” and I don’t see any reason to try and put it differently, but just tell you to check these hard rockin’ guys out.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan@allscandinavian.com
